C & M were married on a joyful September day at Blue Lake Camp, a tucked-away wedding venue just outside of Canal Flats, BC. Getting there is the beginning of the adventure! you wind your way down a logging road for quite a while, but that’s part of what makes this place so special. Once you arrive, it feels like you’ve stepped into your own little world, where everyone is together, unplugged, and fully present for the weekend. They dreamed up a wedding that felt less like a formal event and more like a throwback to summer camp, inspired by the groom’s childhood memories from growing up in Ontario. Their vision for the day wasn’t just about the two of them, it was about creating space for everyone to play, connect, and have fun. Guests spent the weekend playing games, fishing, taking canoe rides, and jumping in the lake whenever the mood struck!  Having that much time and space built into the day also meant I could slow down and really document the people who were there. Taking relaxed portraits of guests, while also capturing all the candid, in-between moments as they unfolded naturally, which is my favourite way to photograph a wedding.

They also found a sweet way to weave in their current home of Fernie, BC, by serving ice cream from a local favourite, Happy Cow, to all of their guests. It was the perfect touch on a warm September afternoon.

This was a true summer camp wedding in every sense of the word: hot dogs, bunkhouses, canoe rides, and lake swims, all wrapped up in the kind of relaxed, joyful energy that happens when you gather your favourite people in one beautiful place. As a Kimberley, BC wedding photographer, Blue Lake Camp is one of those venues I love photographing! it naturally invites connection, movement, and real moments, which makes for the very best kind of wedding day.

If you’re dreaming of a Blue Lake Camp wedding that feels more like a weekend away with your favourite people — think canoe rides, lake dips, and lots of unstructured fun — this tucked-away venue in Canal Flats, BC might be exactly what you’re looking for. Blue Lake Camp is perfect for couples who want a wedding that’s rustic, relaxed, connection-focused, and just a little adventurous.

And if you’re planning a wedding here (or anywhere in the East Kootenays), I’d love to document it all. I’m Carla Elaine Photography, a Kimberley, BC wedding photographer, and I have a real soft spot for weddings that feel like a shared experience rather than a strict timeline. If that sounds like your day, I’d love to hear more about what you’re planning!
